STARS AND DUST

  • The soundtrack and the dramaturgy of the work are based on recorded conversations I had with Sharon Zuckerman Weiser, the dramaturge of the work, which we recorded in not very good French, about a month before the rehearsal process began, not knowing the dancers at all.

The talks deal with questions surrounding the bizarre encounter between me and a ballet company, and toss freely between gossip about the director and a philosophical discussion on dance, conversations around clichés and conventions of the ballet world, and contemporary dance world, French dance verses Israeli dance, Israeli culture verses French culture, possibilities of freedom in an artistic field based on tradition.

The six dancers, like puppets on stage, obey, act and respond to the invisible creators' voices. To the chattering sounds, the dancers quote from canonical ballet excerpts, demonstrate their virtuoso skills, and sometimes join the ridiculous, chattering, and breaking the mute law of classical ballet.”
